Switzerland’s Silence On The Palestinian Genocide

My actual message as I wrote it down but then butchered it when recording the video: Dear Switzerland, I need to talk to you about Genocide. You know, that thing that happened to the Native Americans in North and South America for like 400 years, to Australian Aborigines in the past two centuries to the Armenians 100 Years ago, to the Jews 80 years ago, the Tutsis in Rwandans 30 years ago, and that is happening to the Palestinians right now. Because Switzerland, you seem to be somewhat confused. On the one hand, you are a signatory to all possible international treaties on human rights inside or outside of armed conflicts, like the Geneva convention—I mean, it‘s even named after one of your cities—and you are super proud of your humanitarian tradition like the Red Cross being more or less your Alter Ego. On the other hand, whenever there is an actual genocide taking place, you are silent at best, and complicit at worst. When the Jews were slaughtered 80 years ago, you pretended you knew nothing. You even sent Jewish refugees back to Germany, arguing that „the boat was full“. YOU dear Swiss National Bank, even accepted Gold Tooth Fillings that were sent to you from NAZI Germany‘s Reichsbank Bank, in exchange for Swiss currency. It took you both until the 1990s, to even just regret this. Now, after Israel had been locking all Palestinians in Gaza inside one of their last ancestral enclaves—an open air prison or just simply a Ghetto—for over 16 years, and after this insane cycle of violence between the two peoples produced its latest tragic act of mass murder with 1’400 Israelis killed, you immediately condemned Hammas and told Apartheid Israel that you stand with them and their „right to self-defense“. Israel, unsurprisingly, has by now killed already more than 10‘000 Palestinians and I‘m yet to hear your condemnation of this indiscriminate form of violence or your affirmation that Palestine, too, has a right of self defense. Strange The best you can muster, dear Switzerland, is a call for a humanitarian ceasefire—for which I actually must say I do applaud because even to do this kind of minimum is at the moment in the West an act of bravery. Especially that you voted for this at the latest UN General Assembly and you want to help the Palestinians with 90 Million Franks in humanitarian aid. That is not insignificant. So, you get a Bravo from me on that one. But the double standards still don‘t go away, do they? Let‘s review them together: For some confused reason, you immediately issued a statement after the October 7 attacks that you are „standing with Israel“, but I have yet to see a statement of you „standing with Palestine“. Which means that for some confused reason, 1’400 Israeli deaths seem to move you much more than 10’000 Palestinian deaths. Again, Strange. For some confused reason, you seem to blame Hamas and Hamas alone for the deaths occurring in Israel, but when it comes to deaths on Palestinian lands you „call on all parties“ to respect international humanitarian law—aka, the law of war that forbids killing civilians. Well, to be quite frank, dear Switzerland, that is about as helpful as calling „on all parties“ to respect human rights during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in 1942. The thing about Genocide is that when it happens, it happens with the full consent and the support of many many many of your friends. Because you are neutral, Switzerland, so the others are ur friends. And that‘s a good thing, don‘t get me wrong. Please stay neutral. BUT (and this is a big but) you should at least be neutral on the side of the victims, not on the side of the aggressor. Be neutral, but give shelter to the refugees. Be neutral but do diplomacy for the benefit of the attacked. Be neutral, but condemn the aggressors, not the victims. Be neutral, but sanction the Genociders, not the Genocidees. And last but not least. Beware, dear Switzerland, that when it‘s easy to speak out—you know, when everyone praises you for it—you don‘t really have anything important to say, you are probably only doing the bidding of the powerful. Really speaking out for victims is hard and it hurts and it will cost you something. So if you can‘t do it, better shut up and be silent about both parties. But standing with Israel right now, really is like standing with Germany during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Switzerland, please focus on the victims and please get your act together on who is committing genocide on who at the moment. Oh and, dear national bank. If you receive gold tooth fillings in the next months from the middle east. Please say no. Ok? Thank you. With love, Pascal.
