1955 Banbury Run | The Slinger three-wheel Motorcycle

Some great footage from the 1955 Banbury Run, featuring the rare looking 1903 Slinger motorcycle in action. The Slinger motorcycle was first produced in 1901, by W. Slinger, an electrical engineer from Yorkshire. It was a very unique looking, in-line three-wheeler and the rear of the machine resembled a conventional bicycle, whereas at the front, the normal wheel and forks were replaced by a small motorcycle with two small wheels and a De Dion engine between them. The Slinger was powered by a water-cooled engine with a surface carburettor and coil ignition with the radiator surrounding the cylinder. The transmission was driven by a chain linked to a countershaft and then to a second chain attached to the rear small wheel. Forward motion was relatively easy but in reverse, it was similar to trying to reverse a car with a trailer attached.
