Biden mistakenly refers to Iraq whilst criticising Putin’s invasion of Ukraine
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, the US president mistakenly said that Vladimir Putin, whose army is fighting a war in Ukraine, was losing the war in Iraq.

Joe Biden is the second US leader who supported the 2003 invasion to have made this mistake; George Bush similarly said Iraq instead of Ukraine whilst criticising the Russian president’s invasion. Biden told reporters: ’It’s hard to tell, but he was clearly losing the war in Iraq, he’s losing the war at home. And he has become a bit of a pariah around the world’.
