Mule Contest; Other Sports AKA Military Sports At Reading (1914-1918)

Reading, Berkshire. Military Sports at Reading. Soldiers participate in silly sports as entertainment for an audience. Opens with quick shots of unknown sport: jousting in wheelbarrows?! Man wearing only shorts and a medallion on a chain; covered with tattoos; sits in a wheelbarrow holding a long pole; while another man; in overalls stands behind holding handles. Behind them; 2 men in regular clothes; man in jodhpurs & braces; man in shorts & striped shirt. Crowd in BG; fairgrounds type atmosphere. The tattoo man and the overalls man change places and they start off. We never find out what it was about; as it cuts to a funny slapstick comedy contest with the goal of trying to get a stubborn mule through narrow space between sections of fence. Man rides mule toward this gate as crowd watch; the mule goes around instead of through. Cut to shot of 3 men trying with 3 mules; leading instead of riding. Closer shot of same man in shorts & stripes and man in a uniform both pulling on mules. FILM
