Thief caught on CCTV stealing brass eagle from church lectern

A brazen thief was caught on CCTV stealing a 156-year-old brass eagle from a church lectern. Footage shows a man wearing a green hooded jacket walking down the aisle of an empty church as he makes his way towards the lectern. The thief approaches the brass lectern of St Augustine’s Church in Edgbaston, Birmingham, before removing a brass eagle from its column. The suspect then covers it with a blanket before removing it from the church. It is understood the lectern was given to the church in 1868, the year it opened. Revd Matthew Tomlinson said he is “bereft“ over the theft of the eagle on Monday. #cctv #thief #crime
