Bentall’s store - politeness campaign. Kingston, Greater London. Good pan of queue outside shop. C/U signs on Golden Syrup “1/7d per tin, 14 points“, “Macaroni 9d per 1b - 2 points“, “Prunes 1/- per 1b - 4 points“, “Peas 10d per 1b - 2 points“. M/S staged scene in grocer’s shop, the male and female assistants are chatting to each other, a woman customer walks in and the assistants carry on chatting and ignore her for a time. Eventually she asks for custard powder, milk and dried egg, the male assistant says “No“ curtly to all requests. He continues to talk to the other assistant until the woman asks for salad cream, the assistant says “No“ again. She then requests some sardines and asks how many points she has.
