The film opens with the camera scanning the salt pans (:55-1:22). Maps show the location of Death Valley in California and Nevada (1:24-1:52). A man sweeps across plaster to expose a hoof print (2:13-2:53). A stream runs through salt flats and low shrubs. Minnows are shown up-close (2:55-3:20). Petroglyphs are seen on various rock formations (3:21-3:44). A re-enactment pioneer family scoops water into their mouths from a flowing stream. They ride Conestoga wagons pulled by oxen cross the desert sand (4:04-5:02). Two men walk up a bare trail (5:07). A broken wagon wheel, ox skulls, and an ox yoke decay in the rocky terrain (5:22-5:29). Ashford Mill ruins remain from a 1914 mining town (6:03-6:12).
