PACS 164A Lecture 2: Strategic and Principled Nonviolence - What to Look For
In this lecture, Professor Michael Nagler lays out the chronological structure of the course, as it follows the phases of Mahatma Gandhi’s and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s careers. Professor Nagler also discusses the differences between strategic and principled nonviolence, references economist Kenneth Boulding’s “three faces of power“ and “stable peace“ theories, and discusses, both through explanation and metaphor, the methods of nonviolent engagement used by Gandhi.
