Remember The O’Jays? This is a ’90s garage house cover of ’Love Train’, originally written by superstar soul, funk and disco production/songwriting team, Gamble & Huff. It was a UK #9 hit for The O’Jays in 1973 and 20 years later, Loveparade gave it a dance update for Pulse-8 Records. It wasn’t a hit. Lee York (real name Norbert Kreuzer) and Rick Layne (Abraham Lin) were the German-based producers behind Loveparade and have worked together, under various guises, on many dance and pop releases. On vocals, is singer and actress Andrea Barker. She was previously a member of electro-funk girl group Street Angels, who released a couple of singles in the mid-1980s (’Dressing Up!’ UK #81, ’One Bite’ N/A). She has also recorded and performed with The Weather Girls, Hot Chocolate, Lou Bega, Jimmy Nail and, since 2005, has established a successful Boney M tribute act, Memories of Boney M. This is my preferred mix of their ’Love Train’ cover, and speaking of covers, the German release has a much better sleeve, showing the band.
