Jitwam (Live) | #PhoenixHALO

Jitwam performs live at Phoenix Central Park as part of Phoenix HALO. 0:00 enchante 4:00 temptations 7:24 poor man’s boy Jitwam is something of a geographical and musical nomad. Born in Northeast India, he spent his formative years in Australia and New Zealand, before living in Thailand, South Africa and the UK. His approach to music has been just as varied. Having returned to Sydney, the multi-instrumentalist and producer brings a global sensibility to his music, straddling genres of jazz, funk and soulful house and has the accolades to show for it. His skittering, looping grooves have been spun by tastemaker DJs Moodyman, Henry Wu and Bradley Zero, and he opened for the godfather of jazz-funk Roy Ayers. More recently collaborated with house producers Detroit Swindle and Folamour. In his set for HALO, Jitwam leads a masterful ensemble of instruments who bring an effortlessly catchy brand of funk and groove recalling the broken beat of West London. If there’s one thing for sure, whether he’s behind the decks or playing live, Jitwam is bound to make you move. HALO is an impressive survey of Sydney’s musical community emerging from lockdown. From over 500 applications, 20 acts and 67 performers were selected and filmed over six days, each representing a distinct sub-culture that serves to make Sydney one of the most vibrant and diverse artistic communities in the world.
