Giant Sunspot AR3615 Produced Another X-Class Solar Flare and CME

Yesterday, giant sunspot AR3615 produced another X1-class solar flare. Of greater interest is a CME emerging from the blast site. NOAA analysts are modeling the CME to check for a possible Earth-directed component. The explosion on March 28th at 20:53 UT ionized the top of Earth’s atmosphere causing a deep shortwave radio blackout over the Pacific Ocean. Region 3615 was also produced two lmpulsive M-class flares; an M7.1 flare at 28/06:29 UTC and an M6.1 flare at 28/15:56 UTC. The region continued to develop and added area to its trailer spots while maintaining multiple deltas in the intermediate and trailer portion of the group. Solar activity is expected to continue at moderate to high levels with a chance for an X-class flares over 29-30 Mar. primarily due to the flare potential of Region 3615.
