KAWALA - Jesse C’mon (Live). An exclusive performance for Vevo DSCVR, the channel for the best in new music.
When Jim Higson and Daniel McCarthy formed KAWALA, all they had were acoustic guitars and a surplus of optimism. First, the troubadours strummed their way through Camden, their North London home borough. Then they joined a cadre of musicians making an exodus to Leeds, setting up shop there in 2014. The duo’s status as an acoustic act made them a bit anomalous in the UK indie scene, but it also gave them opportunities to gig at less glamorous but well-paying venues, like churches. Major effort went into making KAWALA’s live show match the energy of plugged-in, electric bands, and Higson and McCarthy eventually built a dedicated following that packed their weekend club dates. 2018’s empowerment anthem “Do It Like You Do” spread the KAWALA mission statement to more ears. Soon the lads had traded church basements for the Reading festival and an opening slot for George Ezra.
