The Telegraph reports sightings of dengue-carrying mosquitoes in 13 European countries due to rising temperatures. It can cause severe symptoms like high fever, severe headache, joint pains, and in extreme cases, it can be fatal. There are no specific antiviral treatments for dengue; supportive care is typically provided to manage symptoms. Although there’s no current outbreak linked to the Olympics, French health authorities are taking preventive measures. They have deployed over 500 mosquito traps across key locations like the Olympic Village and airports to monitor mosquito populations closely until November. With an estimated 16 million visitors expected in Paris for the Games, authorities are prioritizing surveillance in areas where large crowds will gather. To protect against dengue fever, especially in regions where it’s endemic, individuals are advised to wear protective clothing, use mosquito nets, install window screens, and apply insect repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, or IR3535.
