Ornate Rainbowfish and Honey Blue-eye in Teewah Creek Blackwater Biotope Aquarium.

Teewah Creek is located on the Cooloola Coast near Tincan Bay in South East Queensland Australia, the two fish species in this video the Ornate Rainbowfiish (Rhadinocentrus ornatus) and the Honey Blue-eye (Pseudomugil mellis) in this particular location would probably have to be the best example of these two species with their vibrant colour. This Blackwater Aquarium is based on their habitat where they live in (Wallum) or swamp land that runs through a depleted substrate of sand and (Coffee Rock) witch is aged compressed sand and peat. The plants that live in the water in this area are tough and have to live off poor nutrients in the sand, in the foreground of this video I used Myriophyllum gracile var. gracile a native version of Parrots Feather that grows in this area along the banks and submerged along with some local sedges in the background. The litter is all authentic to the area and is a mixture of Wallum Banksia (Banksia aemula), Seaside Banksia (Banksia integrifolia) and River She-oak (Casuarina cunninghamiana). Normally this aquarium would be a tea colour as the water in the natural habitat so II have had to clear it up for filming by doing regular water changes but to the naked eye the tannin stained water looks really. nice and brings out the colour of the fish. These fish do best if maintained at a temperature range of 20-28°C; pH ; and water hardness from 5-100 ppm. although in the wild their conditions can be much harsher.
