1986 Subaru XT and 1997 Subaru SVX at the 2012 Philly Auto Show

The Subaru XT has got to be one of the most unique mass-produced vehicles in the world! It is just full of unique shapes. The first thing you notice is the shape and design of the body. Some people might think it is weird, and some people might think it is ugly, but I think it is very cool looking. I would definitely have bought one of these back in 1986. The design of the body is not just for looks, either. I forget exactly what the sign next to the 1986 XT said, but I believe it said something to the effect of this car having the lowest drag coefficient of any car in production at the time. It also said that EXT was the most aerodynamic at the time. The interior is full of of blocky shapes, and the steering wheel spokes resemble a handgun (or possibly even a submachine gun). The gearshift was designed to resemble the joystick in a fighter jet. I have a book called “Crap Cars,“ and the title is pretty self-explanatory. There are like 25 of what the author, who is well known in the automotive world. The author criticized the overall design of the car, which included saying that the shifter more closely resembles a certain part of the male of anatomy, and that’s what you would feel like if you were driving an XT. I don’t agree with that. The same critic also said that car’s optional 4-wheel drive system would only engage if the windshield wipers were turned on. I do not know if that is true about this particular year.
