The Amenta - Plague of Locus EP (Official Audio)

THE AMENTA has always been a strange and uneasy amalgam of extreme music. Many reviewers have struggled to place the band within the spectrums of ugly, dissonant, and weird sounds. The new release, “Plague of Locus”, gives a first glimpse behind the curtain and shows some of the varied sources of inspiration for the band’s grotesque shape-shifting. 1. Intro 00:00 2. Sono L’Antichristo (Diamanda Galas cover) 01:07 3. Asteroid (Killing Joke cover) 04:37 4. Angry Chair (Alice in Chains cover) 08:03 5. Plague of Locus 14:35 6. A Million Years (Wolf Eyes cover) 18:10 7. Crystal Lakes (Lord Kaos cover) 23:20 8. Rise (Halo cover) 30:15 9. Totem (Nazxul cover) 33:08 10. Black God (My Dying Bride cover) 36:32 The shattered jewel in the crown is the title track. The song ‘Plague of Locus’ pairs bit-crushed and pitch-shifted guitars with theremin wails, blasting drums, and an eerie vocal performance to create a song that, at times, nods to THE AMENTA’s 2008 ‘n0n’ album while always pointing to a new and exciting future. Surrounding this ugly blast are covers of artists who have been inspirational to THE AMENTA. ALICE IN CHAIN’s ‘Angry Chair’ is dragged through the murk and re-interpreted as some unholy dub-dirtied torch song. DIAMANDA GALAS’ ‘Sono L’Anticristo’ is reinvented as abrasive black metal, with guitars buzzing where pianos formerly clanged. KILLING JOKE’s ‘Asteroid’ has its post-punk face marred with chittering stabs of distorted violin. Other covers include chaotic reinterpretations of WOLF EYES’ ‘A Million Years’, MY DYING BRIDE’s ‘Black God’ and a trio of fundamental Australian extreme music classics: NAZXUL’s ‘Totem’, LORD KAOS’ ‘Crystal Lakes’ and HALO’s ‘Rise’.
