IB ANDERSEN as “Oberon“ A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

Here’s Ib Andersen as “Oberon“ in the fiendishly difficult “Scherzo“ movement. Balanchine choreographed this for Edward Villella who was much stocker and with heavily muscled legs. As one who danced this for years under Balanchine’s direction I can attest it was the hardest thing I’ve ever danced. Takes more stamina and speed than either his TARANTELLA or RUBIES (both also made for Villella’s particular gifts. Mr. Andersen does a spectacular performance here in my opinion.
