1950 Mercury 4 Door Sport Sedan - Gateway Classic Cars St. Louis - #6448
#6448
For sale in our St. Louis showroom is a classic suicide door 1950 Mercury 8 Sedan. Finished in a beautiful Sea Foam Green exterior with a tan cloth and vinyl interior, this 50’ Mercury is believed to have just 50,903 total miles on the body. Options for this 1950 Mercury Sedan include: AM Radio, Hub Caps, Cloth and Vinyl Interior, and Wide White Wall Radial Tires. The 255 CID Flathead V8, the “3 on the tree“ (3 speed manual transmission on the steering column) and clutch have all been rebuilt. The Flathead V8 being bored .030 over provides plenty of power to cruise at highway speeds. To insure the engine is properly cooled a custom built radiator has been installed. Dual exhaust has been added, and provides a nice finishing sound to the 255 Flathead V8. Mercury produced only one model from its conception in 1939 to 1951, the Mercury 8. Built on a full size platform the Mercury 8 was available in 2 door versions coupe, Monterey coupe, convertible, sedan, wagon, or a Sportsman convertible, and 4 door versions sedan, convertible, or wagon at different points during that run. In 1952 Mercury started producing multiple models, and the 8 was replaced by the Monterey. Looking at this 1950 Mercury 8 Sedan you quickly appreciate the sheer size of the car, which weighs nearly 4000 lbs. The wide white wall radial tires give it the classic 1950’s look it deserves, along with the original hub caps still in place. Open the suicide doors and you get a wide view of the reupholstered tan interior. The H pattern 3 speed manual transmission on the column shifts with ease, and is a blast to drive.
