- Kolyada (Коляда), One of the most important annual holidays of the Slavs is the winter sun holiday Kolyada. Or — in a different way - solstice. Having originated in pre-Christian times, it is one of the few that has survived to this day, although it was eventually written in a different context and turned out to be timed to coincide with a new holiday — this is how carols appeared (that is, a kind of folk Christmas festivities). But even through the centuries and through the prism of other semantic layers, its ancient original essence still clearly emerges — the greeting of the new growing Sun and the key turning point of the year.
