Cathy Come Home is a TV play from 1966 that uses a documentary style to depict the descent of a young couple trying to to find housing in post-war Britain. Directed by Ken Loach, it made use of many local actors, and the performances are very believable.
Here I’m noting the pace of Cathy Come Home and its effect. Together with the story, the pace helps to create an intense film that proves to be tough but compelling, and although the intensity comes partly from the restricted length, is what the subject matter demands.
