A newly-restored McMurdo Silver Masterpiece V chassis being demonstrated. This chassis has had all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced, along with all out of tolerance resistors. Remaining original capacitors were re-stuffed and previously replaced capacitors were reproduced to retain the under-chassis appearance. The set performs well except on the lowest part of Band ’E’, where the local oscillator cuts out - all mitigation measures failed to render it operational below on this band (the Manual recommends installing an “extra good“ 6J7 tube to remedy this problem - I guess I don’t have one good enough!
