Danish aid in U.S. spying: Impact on EU-U.S. ties

For more: Last weekend, Danish media reported Denmark’s foreign secret service helped the U.S. National Security Agency to spy on European leaders. The alleged spying involved U.S. access to Danish underwater internet cables. That included searches, chats and messaging services used by high-ranking officials from Germany, France, Sweden and Norway. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is one of the leaders allegedly targeted. The accusations covered the years 2012 to 2014. Germany and France sought “clarity“ from their allies. For its part, Denmark insisted there is “no need to repair“ ties with its European neighbors. And the U.S. tried to dodge the bullet, saying it’s eager to work with its European partners.
