A great song by the satirical Russian emigré writer, Yuz Aleshkovsky. He did four years in the camps for breaches of discipline during his compulsory national service. Later he became a children’s writer and clandestine singer of political songs such as ’Tovarish Stalin you’re a great academic’. He left the USSR in 1979. Full words follow below.
