Ravel was a great fan of Borodin and perhaps this influence is most seen in his short piano piece À la manière de Borodine where he pays a lovely homage to the Russian composer. The original piano piece by Borodin, Serenade from his petite suite, has lots in common with the pastiche made by Ravel and the main theme seems almost copied by the latter, yet a distinct French touch and lightness seems to pervade the imitation.
