Police in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh have burned 200 tons of seized marijuana as part of an operation to crack down on drug gangs, Saturday, February 12.
The contraband drugs had been seized by the police during various raids over one year, according to Damodar Gautam Sawang, director general of police.
Speaking to the media at the burning in Vishakapatnam on Saturday, Sawang said it was part of a drive to clamp down on the marijuana trade and its “network across the country.“
Sawang lit one of the several mounds.
Areas of Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Odisha state are notorious for marijuana cultivation, according to the local media. (AP)
