Wiener Sängerknaben, Bertrand de Billy – Mozart: Ave verum corpus, (excerpt)

Founded over 500 years ago (1498), the Wiener Sängerknaben (Vienna Boys’ Choir), is among the foremost and beloved children’s choirs. A number of important musicians have been connected with the famous choir: Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert, Clemens Krauss and Hans Richter for example, were themselves alumni; and composers who have written for the choir include Schubert, Bruckner, and W.A. Mozart. On January 27, 2006 – the day of the composer’s 250th anniversary – the Wiener Sängerknaben celebrated Mozart with this concert from the Stephansdom, Vienna. The Radio Symphonieorchester Wien plays under the baton of Bertrand de Billy, with soloist French soprano Sandrine Piau.
