In 1976 Uriah Heep fired its former iconic singer David Byron and recruited John Lawton. This was a final blow to the band which then took a course toward adult oriented rock and began to dwindle both musically and popularity (except in schlager-loving Germany, where this album was the band’s greatest success).
“The River“ was left out from the Innocent Victim -album, which is sad, because it’s the last good song the group made. Trevor Bolders strong and intentive bassline and Lee Kerslakes energetic drumming really ram the song forward and steal the whole show.
