Sam Shackleton, “The Gypsy Davey“ // GemsOnVHS™

Some of y’all might remember the first recording in this series of Highland adventures with Sam Shackleton and Tom from Fandabi Dozi ( ). Tom is a enthusiast of all things historical and Scottish, who was kind enough to take us up to his little cottage on the Loch for some pints, songs and stories. You can see our full discussion of the historic bards of the Highlands here on his channel ( ). You may notice Sam’s breath visible as he sings. That isn’t special effects, it was just that fucking cold. We got our water from a well in buckets, had big laughs and plucked banjos and guitars all night long. Tom is such a class guy, I reached out to him expecting nothing in particular but offering to collaborate while I was in Scotland, and he was super into it and agreed to meet us for a weekend out. Another cool thing that happened with this recording trip, I introduced Sam Shackleton to the Mary Wallopers in Ireland. That was a wild weekend, and now they’re on tour together in England, so that’s cool. See more of Sam; Our undying love and gratitude go to our executive producers for making this project possible: Brad Sirois, Mitchell Davis, Keith McQuillan, David Jameson, Lisa Galvan, Irvin Maddox, Josh Collins, Brady Jones, Julie Nestoroff, VJ Arizpe, and Rusty Shackleford.
