Väinö Raitio - Legenda, Op. 20, No. 1, for organ (1923)

A work for organ by Finnish composer Väinö Raitio (1891-1945). Along with Aarre Merikanto and Ernest Pingoud, Raitio was considered one of the leading exponents of Modernism in Finland during the 1920s. Like Merikanto, Raitio did not remain at the forefront of the Modernist movement, and eventually he even came to be perceived as conservative, complaining that “[his] generation does not understand [him]“. Raitio was inspired to compose the Legenda, Op. 20/1, while studying organ with Armas Maasalo. Organist: Ville Urponen
