Witness description: “Red orb that hovered then dropped, hovered and dropped again. I saw a red orb hovering just above the treeline across the street from me. It wasn’t moving at all, and appeared to be quite large. A commercial airliner was coming from S to N to land at CHO at the exact same time, which I could clearly hear and observe. This looked comparable in size to the red light that was on the plane. I started recording video on my phone as soon as I saw it. I observed it just hovering for a while as I commented on it, wondering what it was. While I was talking, it suddenly dropped down until it was partially obscured by a tree and then stopped. I moved to my left to get it back in frame, and shortly after is when I saw two white lights on either side come on and then the object dropped down and to the right and disappeared behind the treeline.
