1960s U.S. NAVY ASW ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE EXERCISE USS SHARK SSN-591 HUNTER KILLER SUBMARINE 20804

Shows the submarine USS Shark (SSN-591) conducting anti-submarine warfare maneuvers. A nuclear attack submarine, Shark was one of the Skipjack class boats launched in 1960. The film shows the crew conducting sonar searches, and living and working at sea. Also includes footage of the USS Holland (SS-1), the Navy’s first submarine, as well as early subs including the S44. Also shown are the USS Gyatt (DD-712) and USS Fremont (PA-44). The film also includes WWI German footage of U-boats.
