SpaceX adds crew access arm to Cape Canaveral launch pad

SpaceX is preparing for a busy 2024 as it works to complete a support tower at its launch pad at Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. On Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, teams hoisted a crew access arm into place, which will allow SpaceX to launch Dragon missions. The capability to launch the Dragon spacecraft from SLC-40 in addition to Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center will be needed in January 2024. Two key missions, Axiom Space’s third private astronaut mission to the International Space Station and Intuitive Machines’ first launch to Moon are both slated to liftoff around the same time. SpaceX is hoping to finish outfitting and certifying the new Dragon capabilities at SLC-40 to help keep both missions on schedule. This coverage is made possible by the support of our members.
