From ‘the78prof’ playlist “And Then They Added Words.” The LP “The Fascinating Ernestine” introduced this treatment of the much-recorded jazz standard, first done in 1940 by the Ray Noble orchestra ( ) and written by Noble band members Earle Hagen and Dick Rogers. Original track issued on Mercury LP 60171 - Harlem Nocturne (Hagen-Rogers) by Ernestine Anderson, produced by Hal Mooney, conducted by either Ernie Wilkins or Gigi Gryce (the LP notes do not specify who conducted which track).
