TVN Quad Copter Probe Test Flight #1 - November 7, 2011 - SW OK

First test flight of the TVN Quad Copter prototype next to a supercell on November 7, 2011. After a few iterations and minor tweaks, the first prototype flight was a success even with supercell inflow winds gusting around 20-30 mph at times. The next flight will include the ever-so-important instrument pack for measurement of meteorological data inside tornadoes. The plan for Spring 2012 is to deploy a “swarm“ of quad copter probes to obtain high-resolution measurements of temperature, moisture, and pressure at different heights and locations inside a tornado vortex. Stay tuned for more updates as this new TVN research project ://
