Just got to finish up the chest by installing the hardware and — OMG I cut myself 😫 !!! I apologize in advance for the grizzly scene (off camera, and I’m exaggerating; it’s just a nick). After the hinges and clasp, we butter it up and shoot some glam shots. Thanks for watching!
Btw, here is my critique of my far from perfect birch dovetail chest. First off, on the whole I am pleased with how it turned out and I foresee it being a useful, capable container and pleasant to look at too. That being said, there are plenty of things I’ve learned throughout this project and would do better if I ever do it again: 1) after cutting lid off, the side boards curled out ever so slightly at the edges. This tells me I didn’t use enough glue or clamps or something, 2) there is a decent amount of tear out on one side on the inset top piece, 3) I did a pretty subpar job on aligning the hinges and I’m not sure how one goes about fixing a bad hinge job - especially such small ones (you can’t shift a pilot hole a small amount).
Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions or comments on my critiques above. Thanks again for making it this far!
