In December 1979, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, received an enormous and unorthodox crowd of carol singers on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. Hundreds of carolers bearing burning torches descended on the Mall to wish the Queen and her family a merry Christmas, the Queen and her heir taking in the spectacle from the palace balcony. The display ended with some festive fireworks, after which the Queen and the Prince of Wales bid the crowd good night. 🔥 ✨ 🎄 #QueenElizabethII #PrinceCharles #BuckinghamPalace #RoyalFamily #Christmas To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) - @ITNArchive 🎥 Follow us on Twitter - 🎥 Like us on Facebook - 🎥 Check out our TikTok - @itnarchive1955
