Israel’s defence minister orders ’complete siege’ on Gaza | DW Extended Analysis

The Israeli military says it has struck more than 1,000 targets in the Gaza Strip overnight - as rockets continue to be fired at Israel from Gaza. More than one thousand people have been confirmed dead on both sides since Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel on Saturday. Israel says it is targeting sites belonging to Gaza militant groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad — both regarded as terrorist organizations by the EU, US and others. Since Saturday’s massive unexpected assault by Hamas, more than 700 Israelis have been killed and over 100 are being held hostage, while over 400 Palestinians died in Israeli airstrikes, according to officials. In this extended report, we speak with Gaza-based journalist Hazem Balousha, DW Beirut Bureau Chief Mohamad Chreyteh, our Israel correspondent Rebecca Ritters, and many others.
