Are there any substitutes for Sarashi? I tried to make a Sashiko Hanahukin using this material.
Thank you for watching!
In this video, I talk about what I would look for if I want to find some substitute materials for Sarashi. I explore it specifically for making a Hanahukin, which is a Sashiko stitched food covering.
There are generally three types (Bun, Oka and Tokuoka) of Sarashi Momen and the thinness of the yarn and the tightness of weave. Bun is the most loosely woven material and it may be the easiest one to stitch Sashiko.
As what you can obtain is different depending on where you are, it’s hard to say what is best for you as a substitute.
So I explained what I would consider to find a suitable material and why.
I hope this video helps!
