Ukraine’s President Zelensky returned from his Turkey visit with five commanders previously captured by Russia. Zelensky posted a video of him shaking hands and hugging the smiling commanders before they boarded a plane together. Zelensky, who met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on July 7, said “We are returning home from Turkey and bringing our heroes home”. The five commanders are from the Azovstal battalion, captured by Russia in Mariupol in May 2022. They had been handed over by Russia to Turkey in September 2022 as part of a prisoner swap agreement.
