DIY Sashiko mending with style - fun and stylish visible mending #denim #sashiko #visiblemending

Thank you for watching! If you are a Sashiko visible mending beginner, please also watch this video below. I walk through the materials and tools and the basic tips for stitching which I couldn’t explain in this video. The Sashiko stitches reinforce the fabric and help to prevent the fabric from stretching further. It also means the mended areas lose the stretch. So make sure that your jeans are not too tight and you can still wear them after losing the stretch in the mended areas. The method I used for Sashiko is called Hitomezashi. Hitomezashi uses a grid to create a pattern. There are many different patterns you can stitch using this method. I drew grids of 5mm squares inside all the circles. You can also use 1/4 inch squares instead. There are videos explaining some of the patterns I used in this video. The Dantsunagi pattern: (Sashiko coaster making Part 2) The Jujihanazashi pattern: (Sashiko cross flower stitch) The flower pattern: (Sashiko coaster making Part 5) These videos also explain about drawing a grid. There is another video where I mended a pair of jeans by attaching a patch with Sashiko: I hope these videos help you mend your garments and extend their lives! 00:00 Introduction 01:01 The plan 03:24 Drawing a grid 04:19 The stitching 13:08 The end result #repair #DIY #darning
