SpaceX Blasts Intuitive Machine’s Lunar Lander Into Orbit!

SpaceX Blasts Intuitive Machine’s Lunar Lander Into Orbit! A private moon expedition that could make history is now underway. The robotic lunar lander Odysseus, constructed by the Houston-based business Intuitive Machines, launched early this morning (Feb. 15) from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Let’s find out more about this launch and recent SpaceX news in today’s episode. And so, stay tuned! Hey folks! In the event that all proceeds as planned, Odysseus will land close to the moon’s south pole on February 22, making history as the first private spacecraft to land on the moon. For the United States, which hasn’t visited the moon since NASA’s Apollo 17 mission more than 50 years ago, success would also be significant. Trent Martin, the vice president of space systems at Intuitive Machines, remarked, “It is a profoundly humbling moment for all of us at Intuitive Machines,“ at a prelaunch press conference on Tuesday, February 13. “The opportunity to return the United States to the moon for the first time since 1972 demands a hunger to explore, and that’s at the heart of everyone at Intuitive Machines,“ according to him. It was at 1:05 a.m. EST, or 0605 GMT today when the Falcon 9 took off from Pad 39A at KSC. The first stage of the rocket returned to Earth and made a vertical landing at the NASA site adjacent to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station after around 7.5 minutes. An official SpaceX mission description states that this was the booster’s 18th launch and landing. Only one more than the company’s record for reuse, which it established in December of last year, is needed. Approximately 48.5 minutes after launch, as scheduled, the upper stage of the Falcon 9 continued to propel itself upwards, launching Odysseus into a lunar transfer orbit. Shortly after, the 1,490-pound (675-kg) lander, which is roughly the size of a British phone booth (or, for sci-fi fans, the TARDIS vessel in “Dr. Who“), made initial communication with mission control. The six-day voyage that Odysseus will take to reach lunar orbit will soon begin. Then, at Malapert A, a small crater located roughly 190 miles (300 kilometers) from the moon’s south pole, Odysseus will prepare for its historic landing attempt. NASA is particularly interested in the touchdown attempt because the space agency is betting a lot on Odysseus and its ongoing mission, known as IM-1. NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program, which aims to more economically place agency science equipment on the moon by utilizing the capabilities of commercial American robotic landers, arranged for a ride on IM-1. By the end of the 2020s, NASA hopes to establish a crewed station close to the moon’s south pole under the Artemis program, and these devices are meant to help in that effort by gathering data. It is believed that there is a lot of water ice in this area, which may sustain Artemis astronauts on the surface and be converted into rocket propellant to enable crews to refuel ships away from Earth. _ Join this channel to get access to the perks: #elonmusk #spacex #elon #musk #starship #spacexlaunch #starshipupdate #starshiplaunch _ Hope you guys enjoy this! 👉 If you enjoy this video, please like it and share it. 👉 Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel for more updates.
