Lightning strike triggers massive explosion at Oxford power plant
New footage has emerged of a lightning strike triggering a “massive” explosion at a green power plant near Oxford, sending a “shockwave” through residential streets and a fireball towering into the evening sky.
Residents, including one couple who live about three miles away, said that they heard “one enormous loud bang” and felt their properties shake after the bolt of lightning hit a biogas tank.
The explosion at Green Power Cassington AD Facility, which is run by Severn Trent and is just off the A40 near Oxford Airport, was followed by “pulsating” flames that lasted for about two minutes and gave the area an “apocalyptic orange glow”.
