Foreign Body Extraction: Removing a Thong from a Dog’s Stomach Using Endoscopy

One of the foreign bodies most frequently ingested by dogs is textile items, particularly underwear. In the following video, we present the extraction of a thong from the stomach of a 3.2 kg Poodle. To remove this foreign body, we used reusable Rat Tooth 2x1 teeth forceps from Aohua (Model AH-108-18-160). The strong grip of these forceps allowed us to safely extract the textile foreign body. The extraction procedure lasted for 1 minute and 14 seconds, and the animal was under anesthesia for less than 15 minutes. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive technique that allows for the removal of foreign bodies from the upper digestive tract without the need for surgery. The experience of the endoscopists and a good endoscopy team enables us to successfully resolve the majority (95%) of esophageal and gastric foreign bodies. At Ayora Endoscopy Center (Valencia, Spain), we have over 22 years of experience in endoscopy. We have a wide range of endoscopes that allow us to tackle even the most complicated situations. We hope that this video is of interest to you. Endoscopia Veterinaria Ayora (Valencia. España)
