Are Hands Hits in Sword Sparring REALLY No Big Deal?

I’ve often seen people dismiss light cuts to the hands in sparring, claiming that they wouldn’t do much in a real (unarmored) fight. They seem to underestimate just how fragile the human body is, and especially its appendages. :) What I used for these tests: 13th century arming sword by Kingston Arms Rotmilan kriegsmesser by Landsknecht Emporium The Flying Phoenix Han jian by LK Chen Gustav langes messer by Landsknecht Emporium Hand analog by Ballistic Dummy Lab Special thanks to bladesmith Rick Marchand for building the stand and letting me wreck stuff at his place.
