Laima Pakstas earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toronto before obtaining her law degree at the University of Windsor, in 1982. After practicing law with a small boutique litigation firm in Toronto for a few years, she and her family Laimamoved to Vancouver Island. Laima was called to the bar in British Columbia in 1989, and began working as an associate with Kenneth Newcomb in the Cowichan Valley, becoming a partner in the law firm of Newcomb Pakstas Whittome in 2004.
In 2012, Laima took a year’s sabbatical in Italy, following which she and her husband have now settled in the city of Victoria. When she began practicing law some 30 years ago, Laima worked almost exclusively in the area of litigation, which by the early 1990’s became focused primarily in the field of Family Law. Since that time, Laima’s emphasis gradually changed, and for the past 15 years, she has worked as a general practitioner.
