General De Gaulle Honours Free French Navy (1941)

Item title reads - General de Gaulle Honours Free French Navy. Dartmouth, Devon. M/S of the naval men marching along in the grounds of Dartmouth naval college. M/S of General Charles de Gaulle walking down some steps and saluting. He meets various members of the crews of the submarines ’Rubis’ and ’Minerva’. M/S as he salutes, M/S as he presents the ’Croix Libiration’ to Admiral Muselier, the Chief of the Free French Navy and Air Force. Various shots as he boards the submarines and looks around. M/S as he leaves one. Amendment Feb 2011: Apparently not Devon. It shows a 1941 visit by De Gaulle to HMS Ambrose, base of the 9th Submarine Flotilla at Dundee. The early shots are taken outside Mayfield and the later ones are of Rubis alongside at the Eastern Wharf (Tay Bridge vis in Background) with a brief shot editeddit in of Rubis in Victoria Dock, also Dundee.
