FULL ALBUM: I Am What I Am by Ruth Copeland (1971)
Here’s a rare goodie for ya!
Ruth Copeland was a British musician who immigrated to America in 1967 (full backstory here: ). Soon, she was signed onto the HDH-owned Invictus Records where she made connections with George Clinton. She wrote two songs on Parliament’s interesting debut “Osmium”. Ruth released two albums on the Invictus label: “Self Portrait” and this one.
The backing band consisted mostly of members of Parliament and Funkadelic. Most of the songs on the album were written by Ruth Copeland in collaboration with either Parliament/Funkadelic members George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, or Invictus staff songwriter Donald Baldwin. It also includes two fantastic Rolling Stones covers.
Enjoy!
