GUCCI Spring Summer 2021 Eyewear Campaign
Crash Magazine presents :
Gucci’s new ad campaign for the 2021 Spring-Summer eyewear collection is a tale of two cities, far apart yet so connected. In this tale, unexpected similarities are revealed through two evocative scenarios that together tell the story of a relaxing moment highlighting the eyewear collection.
Inspired by the mysterious and ethereal canals of Venice, with its waters lined with ornate marble palazzos and singular architecture, Creative Director Alessandro Michele imagined a traditional Venetian gondola ride through the famous Italian floating city. As Ni Ni resumes her role as a Gucci brand ambassador, Alessandro Michele’s Venetian dream extends to espouse a parallel image: Wuzhen, a historic Chinese city, where the famous actress is immortalized on a traditional canal boat tour.
Gucci thus broadens this idea of a calm and melodious journey on the water, transforming a familiar image into something far more unusual and unexpected. Together, these two visual narratives achieve an internationalism, a universality, that evokes shared experiences and common pleasures.
Daniel Shea’s Venice photos feature a bold new version of Gucci’s traditional forked branches on oversized geometric frames. The House’s famous Horsebit motif, emblematic of Gucci’s equestrian heritage, appears for the first time in the eyewear collection. This distinctive symbol endows the square frames with striking elegance in a sophisticated combination of shiny materials. There is also a sumptuous sunglass model inspired by the 1980s, with a visible enamel metallic center wire running from the front to the temples where the letters of the Gucci logo appear in large print.
