However, volcanic eruptions ceased on Mars a considerable time ago, causing its interior to cool and solidify, which ultimately weakened its magnetic field. The planet’s atmosphere was then stripped away by the solar wind, and the water that remained froze. Nevertheless, Mars has displayed signs of increased activity in recent times.
