March of the Men of Harlech, performed by the Red Dragon Harp Ensemble
March of the Men of Harlech, performed by the Red Dragon Harp ensemble on Welsh triple harps. HD Video from the Historical Harp Society concert, June, 2015.
The tune “March of the Men of Harlech“ appears first in print in 1794 as “Gorhoffedd Gwŷr Harlech,“ although it is likely that the tune dates from an earlier time. Many composers set the tune, including Joseph Haydn.
The Red Dragon Harp Ensemble takes its name from the red dragon of the Welsh flag, Y Ddraig Goch, traditionally the standard of King Arthur as well as the Tudor monarchs. The Red Dragon is also featured in the story Lludd and Llefelys from the medieval welsh Mabinogion.
